Despite Atlanta’s underwhelming record of 2-4, the Baltimore Ravens find themselves in a fun, tough matchup.
It’s Joe Flacco vs. Matt Ryan in an endless “elite” debate about who is the superior quarterback. It seems the national narrative is that Ryan is more “elite,” but hey, I guess things like wins (both regular and playoff), Super Bowl rings and Super Bowl MVPs carry little value these days. Those accolades belong to Flacco, in case you were wondering.
Anyway, looking past the the Flacco/Ryan matchup shows two teams with vulnerable defense. The Falcons are 31st in the league in total yards, giving up an astounding 419 per game. That’s a lot even in this age of pass-happy offenses. The Ravens on the other hand, rank 17th, almost right in the middle of the pack. Their issues though, are in the secondary and sustaining pass rush, both of which could doom them today against Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Roddy White and Devin Hester.
If this game were in Atlanta, I would be inclined to go with the Falcon’s in this one. Matt Ryan is tough to beat in a dome (although they did just lose at home to Chicago). But it’s no secret that dome quarterbacks tend to struggle when they step outside into real football weather. That’s exactly what Ryan and the Falcons will find today on a windy Sunday in Baltimore.
I like the Ravens 27, Falcons 24.
