Joe Flacco and the Ravens aim to bounce back against New England after losing a nail-biter to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2. The NFL odds are in their favor and Baltimore has one thing on their side: desire for revenge.
As you may remember, the Ravens blew a chance to reach the Super Bowl when Billy Cundiff whiffed on a 23-yard field goal that would have sent the game into overtime. The Patriots instead held on for the 23-20 win.
Baltimore hasn’t forgotten about that fateful day and will be coming out guns ablazing in Week 3.
We’re interested to see how Flacco does in operation of this new high-tempo offense. Instead of Ray Rice carrying the load all the time like he so often did last season, Flacco has been given much more responsibility in this offense.
While we are seeing much more emphasis on the pass these days out of the Ravens, Rice still needs to get the ball early and often.
This is one of the best backs in football we’re talking about here. He’s lethal out of the backfield and in the passing game (six catches for 53 yards in Week 2) as well. Baltimore would do well do get Rice involved more after he only carried the ball 16 times against Philadelphia.
The NFL odds have been released for Week 3’s slate and currently the Ravens are favored by a field goal for this home game. Some books are offering up 2.5 instead, which could be a great snag if you’re liking Baltimore to win and cover this weekend.
Unsurprisingly though, it’s going to come down to Flacco and Rice. The Ravens have a number of solid targets (Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith, Dennis Pitta) that can make plays and it’s up to Flacco to make the right reads and avoid costly errors.
Then the rest will be left to Rice to do what he normally does: run through teams.
