With an hour until kickoff, inactives were announced for both squads. I’ll point out the key players missing the game here.
LaQuan Williams WR – Williams is a bit surprising considering his value on special teams. He was not likely to see much, if any playing time at WR with Boldin, Smith, and Jacoby Jones firmly entrenched as the top 3 receivers. This could be a sign that Tandon Doss has turned the corner after a lost rookie season.
Sergio Kindle LB – A bad sign for Kindle who is a healthy scratch despite the absence of Suggs. The former second round pick is running out of chances to make an impact with Baltimore.
Jah Reid OT – Reid is missing the game with a calf injury, but likely wouldn’t have seen much playing time anyways. He has already been surpassed by rookie Osemele.
Billy Bajema TE – Bajema was solid in the preseason with Dickson and Pitta missing most of the games. With both back for the opener, he won’t be dressed. This is good news that neither will be limited.
Asa Jackson CB – The explosive rookie is still very raw. I hope he will be used in the return game at some point, but it looks like Jacoby Jones will hold that job to start the year.
Bernard Scott RB – Scott is out with a hand injury. He would have spelled BenJarvus Green-Ellis, but now that job will go to Brian Leonard.
Dre Kirkpatrick CB – Kirkpatrick is a talented rookie but will be sitting out with a knee injury. The Bengals secondary could be in for some trouble.
Carlos Dunlap DE – A big loss to Cincy’s pass rush which is good news to Flacco.
In other news, Baltimore released Bobby Rainey and signed Anthony Allen off their practice squad. I doubt Allen will see much playing time with Rice and Pierce likely to take the lions share of carries for Baltimore.
