The Ravens have finalized their roster going into the season.  With a flurry of cuts from other teams, however, they very well could pluck a recently waived player up, but for now we have something fairly concrete to work with.  In this post I’ll go through the QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs and give a brief highlight of the players on the team.

Quarterback:

  • Joe Flacco
  • Tyrod Taylor

Painter couldn’t make the cut despite working with former head coach Jim Caldwell.  Taylor didn’t necessarily outplay Painter, but will remain Flacco’s backup for another year.

Running Back:

  • Ray Rice
  • Bernard Pierce
  • Bobby Rainey
  • Vonta Leach

Rice is the workhorse here, but this will be the first time a veteran won’t be backing him up.  Pierce was drafted in the 3rd round out of Temple and can be used as a change of pace back.  Rainey is a big play threat, but went undrafted out of Western Kentucky.  Allen was released and Damien Berry was placed on IR.  I’m a little concerned about the lack of experience, but Rice can handle a big workload.  Vonta Leach will be the only fullback and is one of the best in the league.

Wide Receiver:

  • Torrey Smith
  • Anquan Boldin
  • Jacoby Jones
  • Laquan Williams
  • Deonte Thompson
  • Tandon Doss

The Ravens go with 6 wide receivers which is a little surprising.  Jones will likely see double duty in the return game, so that could allow some of these other guys on the field.  Williams is also a great special teams player which likely helped him secure a roster spot.  Thompson had a great offseason after going undrafted out of Florida, but really surprised me that he made the squad.  Doss is likely here because he was a 4th round pick in 2011.  That will only carry him for so long, so he will have to start performing to keep his spot for the whole year.  6th round pick Tommy Streeter will go on the IR.  He should get a good look next year.

Tight End:

  • Ed Dickson
  • Dennis Pitta
  • Billy Bajema

Harbaugh must feel confident that Dickson and Pitta should be able to suit up week 1 because they only carried three tight ends.  Hopefully we see them on the field vs. Cincy next Monday night.  Bajema played well while these guys sat out most of the preseason.
